Advice For Young Retirees

Image
Barbara Morris During the Depression of the 1930s, an Irving Berlin tune with the lyrics “Everybody’s doin’ it, doin’ it, doin’ it” was popular. I don’t know what everybody was doin,’ but it had a happy sound that made you feel better about tough times. Fast-forward to the present and the lyrics are still relevant: Everybody’s doin’ it, doin’ it, doin,’ it ,  and what are they doin’? They are retiring. When Social Security went into effect, no one could envision the many ways government-sponsored retirement would affect future generations. A joint study by Washington and Cornell Universities concluded that 64 percent of retirees depend on Social Security for half or more of their income; 29 percent rely on it for 90 percent of their income; 18 percent rely on it for all their income. Researchers also say that by age 75, nearly a quarter of those elders will have experienced poverty, and the percentage rises as one ages. Poverty in retirement is not just a statistic; it’s a gr...

Connecting to Greatness

Image
Have you thought about what inspires you to achieve greatness? Does the thought of it excite and drive you, or does it overwhelm? Napoleon Hill said, “If you can’t do great things, do small things in a great way. Don’t wait for great opportunities. Seize common, everyday ones and make them great.” Each of us can take something we do daily, strive to make it better, and eventually arrive at greatness. As leaders, you can model the way and inspire your people to follow suit. As an example, think about your listening skills. When you practice paying full attention to the people with whom you speak, this is a seemingly small action that can have enormous payoff. Think about how you feel when someone pays close attention to what you say. You feel “heard” and you may feel a little more valued than you did before the conversation began. When people truly listen to each other, they leave the conversation feeling more acknowledged, and perhaps even more understood. Since we’re surrounded ...

The Galactic Intervention: Lord Ashtar?s Call to Humanity for Change, Awakening, and Peace

Image
This is a message I received from Ashtar (Lord Ashtar, The Commander and Chief of The Galactic Federation of Light). As you will see, it addresses me personally but includes everyone in the message. It gives you clarity, hope and guidance to bring forth change and peace.  Lord Ashtar: We (the alien nations) are coming whether people are ready because it is time for intervention in a deeper, more profound way. Many are anticipating our disclosure and coming. We aren’t waiting for you (humanity’s readiness) any longer because if you want the world to change, you need our help. We have been waiting on the sidelines long enough. We had to get through the election to proceed. Now that the turmoil continues, we must intervene to bring forward peace. Nothing will be shocking to some; it will be mind-blowing to others because they have been in denial for far too long. No one will be harmed, and we will come to those ready and those on the peripheries who are almost ready so they can ...

How to Connect with Every Audience Member When You Speak

Image
When asked, "What is the number one secret of great presentation?" My reply was, "Although there is no one secret, if there were, it would be that your subject is of interest to your audience." Your relationship with your audience is one of the most critical factors to determine the success of your presentation. When you master the art of connection it will set you apart whether you are addressing 5, 50, or 500 people. Knowing how to build that relationship from the beginning is one of the secrets to speaking with confidence and authority. How Do You Make a Genuine Connection with Your Audience? The two most important ways to connect with your audience are intellectually and emotionally. This is significant because logic makes people think, while emotion drives them to act. Here's how to achieve both: Intellectual Connection : This comes from the quality of your content and the clarity with which you present it. Use logical arguments, data, charts, statis...

Social Influencer Measurement Platform

Image
Likes, Shares, Followers, Connections, Engagement, and Views. Supposedly, the more of these that you have, the more influence you have. Yet if influence is so important, why not put these into the hopper, and come up with a score? The higher your score, the higher your influence. It turns out that a number of companies have done precisely that. The now-defunct Klout tried and failed, but there are other platforms, including Kred.com , Skorr.social, Brandwatch.com-PeerIndex, and others. It turns out that these platforms themselves have business models that focus on connecting advertisers to influencers, using scores to determine customer service priorities, and the like. Generally speaking the higher the score, the greater the influence. Does this topic resonate? Why Exercise Matters More as We Age

Image
Are you in your 60s or 70s and wondering if it’s too late to start exercising for better health and longevity? The answer is no — it’s never too late to make a positive impact on your life. A groundbreaking study on the benefits of physical activity in older adults reveals that even modest exercise can significantly extend your life. Whether it’s a brisk walk or a few minutes of yoga, exercise can be a game-changer. The study, conducted as part of the Oslo Study, followed over 15,000 men born between 1923 and 1932. This long-term study found that men who exercised just 30 minutes a day, six days a week, had a 40 percent lower risk of dying over a 12-year period compared to their sedentary counterparts. Even more inspiring, this effect was comparable to the life-extending benefits of quitting smoking. It shows that physical activity is one of the most powerful tools you have for enhancing your longevity and quality of life ( The Washington Post ). Exercise offers several critical ben...
