Disruption Report #59 ? Potential Railroad Strike, Dollar Tree Makes Big C-Suite Changes, and Manufacturing May Be Staying in Asia

Dollar Tree UNEXPECTEDLY Releases Five Senior Executives On December 13, 2021, I published an article asking: “ Will Its New $1.25 Price Hurt Dollar Tree? ” We may have an answer as the retailer announced that the CFO (who has been with them since 2008), the Chief Information Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and the Chief Legal Officer are all out of a job. Notably, the company also announced that it seeks individuals to fill all five positions. That means the change was unanticipated and sudden unless I am reading this very wrong. On the other hand, rival Dollar General, which has more flexible pricing, announced it is creating 10,000 new jobs, and six senior executive hires. MAERSK SHIPPING COMPANY CEO SEES MANUFACTURING STAYING IN ASIA Søren Skou, CEO of the world’s number two shipping company, Maersk, stated in a Financial Times interview (“ Global trade is not going into reverse, says Maersk boss “) that rather than re-shoring or near-shoring, h

The Herman Trend Alert June 29, 2022 New Discoveries in Diet, Eye Health, and Lifespan A research team from the Buck Institute have made some fascinating discoveries that ultimately will help humans to live longer in better health with ability to see better as well. Assistance from the Lowly Fruit Fly Many years ago, in Biology, I reviewed studies about an insect called Drosophila, better known as the Fruit Fly. In fact, the humble fruit fly has a long history of helping us with discoveries in longevity research, from calorie restriction to maintaining glucose balance. Why? Because it seems that, believe it or not, we have a lot in common with this pesky insect. And studying them can help us learn more about the human body. Fruit Flies are our Research Heroes Because fruit flies are so easy to raise and have such a short lifespan, they are ideal models that allow us to monitor many of things at the same time. Not only that but nearly 75 percent of human genetic disease genes ha

New Job? How To Successfully Ride The New Executive Rollercoaster

Image
That is what the most successful companies do. Unfortunately, while best-selling books such as The First 90 Days might provide some short-term relief, they create a false sense of security with a quick-fix solution to succeeding in a new role. The reality is you need to focus on Day 365 from Day 1. It takes one year, sometimes two, to fully integrate and be successful in a new company, but most companies only focus on the first two weeks or on the first ninety days, and then leave leaders, executives, and employees to figure it out for themselves. You need to plan your perfect launch for your first month, first quarter, and in your first year. New executives’ satisfaction with a new role and company is like riding a daring rollercoaster. You can go from “I love it here!” to “ what have I done?” and “ now I get it! ” all in one week! For those in a new role take a look at my Executive Rollercoaster and tell me where you are today. Understand from your peers and board what peak

Will You Revise Past Errors to Achieve Success?

Photo by Geralt via Pixabay Attract the Right Job Or Clientele: Will You Revise Past Errors to Achieve Success? When we are willing to admit revising past errors to achieve Success, we are far more likely to do so. And when issues appear to be larger than life itself, one strategy can enable correcting the course of action: collaboration. We can collectively enhance more change than we believe possible upfront. We frequently hear about the value of meditation, yoga, and being in nature. It frees our minds and allows creative thought to flow. Often the better ideas come to us in these moments as silence; sometimes, it can be our best friend. The quiet allows for reflection to revise past errors to achieve success. My Story: Mantras taught to me: • ‘If you do not defend yourself, no one else will.’ • ‘Never give up but seek to find a better way.’ • ‘Believe in yourself even when no one else does.’ Through the years, those sayings remained with me and helped to fight off much n

Getting The Most Out of Life in Your 60s

Image
Are you interested in getting the most out of life in your 60s and beyond? There is a lot to think about regardless of your age, for the day that you reach 60 and beyond. Or, if you’re already there, learn about eight actions to consider that can lead to a good life. Getting the Most Out of Life In Your 60s [embedded content] Let’s Let’s begin by answering the question, what does a 60-year-old look like? If you Google what does a 60-year-old look like, you’ll probably see photos of gray-haired women and men.  While I’m not saying that 60-year-olds may not have gray hair—not all do. And they all don’t dress like what one imagines older people look like—the picture of a grandmother or a grandfather. In my opinion depicting a person who is 60 years old as gray-haired, old and weak is disrespectful and biased. In the 20+ years, I’ve worked with the aging population, I’ve known plenty of men and women well beyond 60 who appeared much younger than their years and were more active than s
