Here?s What Does Help

Image
For Immediate Release: Dateline: East Greenwich , RI A long, long time ago my son was crying about something. Off-handedly I told him, “Stop it, crying never helps.” He stopped and thought for a minute. “What does help?” he asked. And that’s been one of my key coaching and consulting tenets ever since: Don’t tell people what they should stop doing, tell them what they need to  start doing. Instead of “Stop cutting off people in mid-sentence,” tell them, “Take the extra time to hear someone’s full opinion so that you can evaluate their thinking and future developmental needs. You can’t do that with half a sentence.” Adblock test (Why?) source http://www.expertclick.com/NewsRelease/Heres-What-Does-Help,2023299926.aspx

Access to Quality Long-Term Care Services Vital for Quality of Life

Image
A prominent authority in long-term care planning and Long-Term Care Insurance , while addressing advisors in Colorado, emphasized the critical importance of securing access to a range of high-quality long-term care options. This is not just crucial for our loved ones today but also imperative for our personal future care needs in the coming years. As we approach the holiday season, November stands out as the perfect month to initiate conversations about long-term care. November, in fact, is National Long-Term Care Awareness Month. Families gather together, creating a valuable opportunity to bring the topic of long-term care to the forefront of family discussions.  In my years of assisting individuals with Long-Term Care Insurance, one consistent theme has emerged: the importance of having options for quality care. Consumers express a clear desire not to burden their adult children with future caregiving responsibilities or the complexities of managing care. They wish to have a vari

Alcohol Fails for Mental Health Issues and Can Bring on Cancer

Image
Mental health issues may drive people to alcohol abuse, but instead of helping, it increases the problems and may destroy health in the process. Photo by Acton Crawford on Unsplash Alcohol, that oil that greases and releases the wheels of inhibition and inserts poison into our bodies, continues to be a killer of the mind and a wrecker of the body. Still, each year, millions worldwide hear its siren song and are drawn to it in the hope that it will provide succor from emotional pain in a world spinning as never before. “ Globally an estimated 237 million men and 46 million women suffer from alcohol-use disorders with the highest prevalence among men and women in the European region (14.8% and 3.5%) and the Region of Americas (11.5% and 5.1%). Alcohol-use disorders are more common in high-income countries.” Many people view alcohol as a method to momentarily escape their troubles or soothe their nerves, and they utilize it as a coping mechanism for stress and anxiety . Are You an Empowered Patient?

Image
Pat Garner I recently needed to change my healthcare provider from a PPO to an HMO. I had been used to seeing a naturopath for in-depth blood work. So much information can be learned from blood work. My recent trip to a “regular” MD made me feel I knew more than she did regarding nutrition and how food affects the body. The one issue I can’t seem to hack is better sleep. I thought I’d discuss it with the doctor to see her suggestions. I made it clear medication was NOT going to be my solution. She made some excellent suggestions with herbs and natural remedies; however, I already knew her solutions.  She gets extra credit for knowing something about herbs and supplements.  We continued our discussion, and she ordered some blood work for me. I was super excited to have labs done. A few days later, I could see the results and was surprised by the lack of labs I thought would be essential. The labs were just a slimmed-down lipid panel, A1C, creatine for kidney function, and a basic T

Most People Don?t Know These Sixteen Steps for Opening A Door

Image
For Immediate Release: Dateline: East Greenwich , RI A huge number of posts on social media—especially Linkedin—start with “most people” or “too many people” or “the majority of people” or just “people”—meaning everyone on earth. The posts then go on to demonstrate that, astoundingly, only the writer has discovered the correct traits, procedures, behaviors, and skills for leadership, sales, emotional health, culture change, and/or the cooking of kale. This is usually accomplished with a variety of charts and complex diagrams what, well, aren’t exactly useful “in the moment.” I doubt these writers are at the top of their profession, their game, or their zip code. It’s an arrogant position  because it assumes that “most people” are somehow “damaged” and inferior to the brilliance of the writer.  It’s akin to “there are two kinds of people in the world,” and the writer is always in the better half. But this is far worse. Here the writer is in some enlightened selective state which “

Long-Term Care Awareness Month: A Call to Action for Future Planning

Image
November is Long-Term Care Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of planning for the future costs and burdens of aging and to ensure that loved ones who need care now have access to quality care options. Matt McCann, a leading national expert on long-term care planning and Long-Term Care Insurance, told insurance agents and financial planners in southern California that aging is an inevitable part of life, and with it comes the responsibility to plan ahead. The costs and burdens associated with long-term care can be overwhelming, especially if not prepared for in advance. Millions of Americans are impacted by the demands of long-term care, underscoring the urgency for thorough and proactive planning. As life expectancies increase, so do the chances of facing chronic conditions, accidents, mobility challenges, dementia, and the general frailties associated with aging. These circumstances often necessitate assistance with everyday activities and supervision

The Tailor From Summit Consulting Group, Inc. -- Alan Weiss, Ph.D.

Image
For Immediate Release: Dateline: East Greenwich , RI There’s a small tailor shop on Main Street here that has to be 40 years old (I’ve been here 35) run by a single tailor. The place is a mess, in that there are threads and samples and tools all over the place. He has to clear the counter to write out a receipt. But he’s quite busy, he’s one-of-a-kind. I brought a jacket in the other day with a small rip on the lapel. Without even looking inside he said, “This is entirely hand made.” (It’s a Kiton, which is entirely hand made. Brioni, for example., an excellent brand, is only mostly hand made.) “And cashmere,” he said, feeling the material. He examined the rip and the fabric, hunted around to find the right color and size thread, a needle, thimble, and scissors, and started sewing a couple of inches away from the tear. (I thought he’d tell me to leave it with him, maybe get it back in a week.) Ten minutes later there was no defect visible at all. I watched him the entire time and

Chapter 8: Improving Service To Fit Modern Timelines

Image
Gen Z wants to move faster and there is a huge premium placed on time.   Solution: The option of shorter service contracts should exist.   Career patterns are changing. The typical trajectory of staying at one company for decades has declined since the turn of the century. Young Zers no longer talk about four to five years on the job, they're switching as much as every two years. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that "the median tenure of workers ages 55 to 64 (9.8 years) was more than three times that of workers ages 25 to 34 years (2.8 years). [1] From a consistency standpoint, the four years as a high school student may be the longest-tenured position that Zers ever hold. Karin Kimbrough, the chief economist at LinkedIn, said in a statement that "it's normal for career starters to be in an experimental phase where they're still figuring out what they want out of a job, and aren't always ready and willing to settle [2] ". This sets the gener

Who Will Murder, Who Will Not?

Image
Recent spree murders have raised the question of making a determination of potential violence or murder and who is most qualified to make it. Photo by Lacie Slezak on Unsplash The recent murders of people in Maine during a quiet night enjoying the company of their friends and neighbors have raised a number of questions. We know that the man who is seen as responsible for the deaths had been hospitalized for two weeks in the summer of 2023 and, allegedly, he was hearing voices and that he was a gun instructor for military personnel. What questions are lingering in people’s minds? The first question that arises once anyone sees that he has been hospitalized because he had auditory hallucinations has to be: who interviewed him at the hospital, and how did they make the determination that he wasn’t a danger ? We expect that mental health professionals all have superpowers of prediction in these matters, but that is not the case . Judgment regarding dangerousness is never a simple

Internationally-Known Writer Discovers How Difficult It Can Be to Prove You Really Are You After a Scam, and What to Do About It

Image
Writer-film producer Gini Graham Scott thought she knew how to be cautious and avoid scams after writing three books and producing two documentaries about scams and how to avoid them. But she ended up losing my Facebook account and two big groups she created – "Scammed" featuring different scams in the news, and "The AI Revolution and Writers and Artists" featuring the latest developments in AI affecting writers and artists. She lost them due to a new Facebook scam in which a scammer adds their own email to the group and then takes it over when the original owner doesn't act quickly enough or doesn't provide the right information to get it back.              At least, she was able to restart the groups under new names: "Cons and Scams" and "The AI Revolution and Writing, Arts, and Business," though ironically, the first day, over two dozen scammers joined these accounts and immediately offered help in recovering money or Fac

Another Review for A Thousand Flying Things

Image
A Thousand Flying Things Kathryn Brown Ramsperger TouchPoint Press 978-1956851649                          $16.99 Paper/$8.99 ebook Set in the early 1990s in Sudan,  A Thousand Flying Things  lives up to its title by being many things—among them, a romance story, a story of humanitarian aid and UN efforts, and a chronicle of the conflict that erupts between work and love when an opportunity of the past returns to present-day efforts to change the most well-meaning of intentions. The last thing UN worker Dianna saw coming was an opportunity to rekindle a romance that took place in Lebanon. Her efforts to help children in the Sudan have resulted in terrible realizations about the politics and abuse of foreign aid programs, the power of local tribal warlords to kidnap and train child fighters, and threats to her own life. Her presence in Africa is filled with idealism, practicality, and dangerous realizations: “These children mean everything to her because her presence in Africa i

The Bright Side of Problems

Image
For Immediate Release: Dateline: East Greenwich , RI When Mercedes-Benz North America was my client, I had occasion to speak to the owner of the highest rated dealership for service in the US. I asked him what he felt was the key to his success. “Problems,” he said. “You try to avoid them but sometimes you can’t, and the key then is how you treat the customer. No one goes home after a trip and brags that the hotel room service came right on time, or that the hotel didn’t lose the baggage. They brag that the hotel offered a free meal, or a discounted rate, or a gift to atone for a mistake.” “You’re not creating problems,” I jokingly suggested, “to try to look good later?” “In the auto business,” he said, “there are  always  problems!” Adblock test (Why?) source http://www.expertclick.com/NewsRelease/The-Bright-Side-of-Problems,2023299763.aspx
