Alan Weiss?s Monday Morning Memo? ? 10/21/2024

This past Thursday and Friday Maria and I drove four hours up to Vermont and then back again to experience falconry, a gift from my son for my last birthday. (I’m told I’m hard to shop for. My wife once arranged for me to operate an excavator in Vegas and my daughter gets us show tickets.)
Niko, the falcon, was fascinating. (If you have access to Facebook, go here—https://www.facebook.com/RockStarOfConsulting—and scroll down a short bit to the photos and movie. You’ll also see Avi the Owl.) The bird would fly to one of the wooden platforms, wait for a cue, and then fly to my wrist, snag a treat, and wait for instructions.
However, Niko also “freelanced” and would occasionally take off on his own and land in the field to snag a cricket or some other morsel he saw from 40 yards away. He will also land only on a leather glove, never on a hand, shoulder, or head. Birds of prey can lift half their body weight and, with any “kill” heavier than that, must eat it on the ground or dismember it and fly away with parts.
I once returned from Dunkin’ Donuts with four donuts in a bag. I put the bag down on a step and started over to feed the ducks. However, I heard a rustling and flapping, and turned to see a crow a foot off the ground, struggling with the bag. It dropped it when I was a foot away, and flew to a branch and glowered at me. A crow once fought my German Shepherd over a dead fish they each claimed.
Maya Angelou points out that we train animals but we educate people. I’m not so sure any more. That falcon knew how to ignore instructions to do something he favored and then return to the fold before he got into too much trouble. And I’ve seen thousands of people, in college and in businesses, trained mindlessly, without metrics for success, and never educated.
While we can all probably lift half our weight or more, from what I can see, not enough of us are pulling our own weight….

You can’t say to yourself, “Wow, this is a great idea, I’ll get to it later.” By then, it’s usually gone. Capture your prey while it’s in front of you. —Alan Weiss

New Newsletter: Not Without Honor…. (Began October 15)
“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” —The Gospel of Mark, 6:4
Join me for a monthly newsletter that will explore, analyze and predict ramifications of issues and events in global societies. Each issue will focus on topics that will include politics, social mores, the arts, sports, technology, financial affairs, and other contemporary issues.
Develop the ability to discuss current issues with dexterity and insight and become an object of interest to others, whether clients, colleagues, or friends. The discussions will be brief and focus on several issues per edition. Letters and commentary from readers will be welcome.
For example, as we are undergoing the dynamics of morbidity outpacing fertility in most developed countries, there will be a profound labor shortage if actions are not taken rapidly. This includes such diverse political systems as China and the US. There are three key areas, that must be utilized to accommodate what is apparently a multi-generational problem. We’ll discuss what they are and analyze what must be done to successfully resolve the dilemma.
You get the idea. The first issue launches in October. The fee is $500 for the year of newsletters, including all back issues if you join during the year. https://alanweiss.com/growth-experiences/not-without-honor/

Master Master Class 2025
I’m happy to once again offer the unique Master Master Class in 2025. It will be in the exquisite Newport area on March 12-13, two full days of learning, experimenting, and building new collegial relationships.
We will achieve:
• New offerings and IP for a volatile, No Normal® world.
• A consistent “voice” of expertise in your market—a “go to” magnetism and attraction.
• The identification and evaluation of your existing “body of work” to be repurposed and exploited for passive income.
• A book idea—commercially published or self-published, hard copy or electronic, written by you or “ghosted”—that will establish and perpetuate your stature.
• The HOV lane for advisory work with high fees and low labor.
• The confidence and presence to deal successfully with anyone at any time in any environment. (Very special role plays.)
This will be all new material from prior Master Classes. The fee will be $15,000 which includes lodging and most meals and a reception. (This will probably be the last Master Class I conduct in person, on site. No, I’m not kidding.)
I have three people already attending simply by hearing me discuss this informally. My limit is a dozen people. It will not be recorded, but you may attend by Zoom, although I caution you on the intrinsic disadvantages of so doing. Attendees may record the session on their own.
