The Parade of Learning

For Immediate Release:

Dateline: East Greenwich, RI

When I was a senior at Rutgers, I had a job in the Dean of Students’ office to help pay my tuition. As we neared graduation he asked me how I was doing. I told him I felt great, and had a strange sense of power.
“That’s the power of learning,” he said, “and you should never loose it.”
College should teach us how to learn, not how to memorize. It should teach critical thinking skills and not how to “get our ticket stamped.”
Life-long learning is “on us.” We need the self-accountability to continue to learn in order to continue to grow, to continue to contribute. It’s best to lead the parade but it’s fine just to be in the parade. It’s not good to watch the parade from the sidewalk because, in due time, the parade has moved on.

Adblock test (Why?)
