July 31, 2024, Rebecca Biggio, PHD, Author and Active Duty Military Spouse Active-Duty Military Spouses: Does Your Career Depend on State Certification or Licensure? Are you an active-duty military spouse whose career depends on a certification or license to work in your field? Are you PCSing to a new state? The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) includes a new provision, as of January 2023, to help military spouses transfer professional licenses and certifications when relocating due to PCS orders. This provision also applies to servicemembers. The current SCRA Professional License Portability Provision follows a call issued by then-First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden in 2011, in which they challenged all 50 state governors to take action to help ease the burden of state licensing regulations for military families. You can read a 2016 White House press release describing the history of the Joining Forces initiative and its work to simplify state licensing requiremen

Come on, man: Then Who Are You?

For Immediate Release: Dateline: East Greenwich , RI Another broadcaster, at the Olympics from the UK, was removed after saying something incredibly biased and stupid about female athletes. What usually happens in these cases is an apology and the statement, “That’s really not who I am.” Of course it is. Imagine if they asked John Dillinger after his capture whey he robbed so many banks? “Well, that’s not really who I am.” (He actually said, “Because that’s where the money is!”) Adblock test (Why?) source http://www.expertclick.com/NewsRelease/Come-on-man-Then-Who-Are-You,2024305806.aspx

How To Avoid The Perception Of Preferential Treatment In Business

Image
Photo by GDJ via Pixabay Attract the Right Job or Clientele: How To Avoid The Perception Of Preferential Treatment In Business Nothing is more frustrating to customers than feeling treated less favorably than another in the same boat. It’s commonplace to experience varying service levels with a varying payment schedule, and most understand and accept that certain treatment is given depending on how much we’re willing to pay.  For example, reasonable people who do not have access to first-class on an airline trip would never consider it mistreatment if they’ve only purchased an economy ticket. But naturally, the uniform expectation is to arrive at our destination with a sense of comfort and safety. Our collaborative blog offers insights into how to avoid the perception of Preferential Treatment’ in business. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Avoid The Perception Of Preferential Treatment In Business

Look for the Positive Side of Boredom and Benefit From It

Image
We think of boredom as something negative, but it has benefits we need to realize and use to our advantage. Photo by Priscilla Du Preez ???? on Unsplash Boredom can be a friend or a foe, and we are the ones who will determine how we view it and how we may benefit ourselves and our children from it. It is not a state of inertia where we are devoid of everything and every creative aspect of our lives, but one that offers opportunity if we perceive it when it presents itself. How often have we heard a small child look at us and say, " I’m bored ! " And how did we respond to that? Behind that one word is a nexus of learning and a kernel of inspiration. We all get bored sometimes, and it makes us feel uncomfortable. We may believe that we should do something , that we're missing something , or that there m ay be some lack in ourselves . These are several perspectives on the situation we find ourselves in, but we should not despair because research is pointing the way,

For Immediate Release: Dateline: East Greenwich , RI I’m watching the gulls in Nantucket and they soar without flapping their wings in high winds. They have to flap and work hardest when there’s no wind in order to create lift (the speed of air over their wings). When things are turbulent and tumultuous—high business and social winds—we can soar without much effort, especially if we’re creating change and innovating. But if the air is still, and we’re doing nothing to create movement, then we’ll exhaust ourselves flapping around in dead air. Facebook Voyeurism, TikTok Crack

Image
When you think about it, every social media platform does have a few things in common: they make it easy to spend too much time on them. They are sometimes (always?) a substitute for other screen time, such as TV, and sometimes (hopefully not always) a substitute for real-world interaction. And they are in the business of selling advertisements based on a knowledge of our preferences, demographics, and psychographics. But there is also a difference between the platforms, and that is in WHY we use one over the other. Facebook is for peeping Toms, and TikTok is for crackheads. Yes, you read that right. Facebook allows people to stalk our friends, friends of friends, and sometimes anyone, and those who are stalked have no idea that you are spying on them. Facebook could have added functionality to show who has looked at your profile, much as LinkedIn has done, but they have explicitly decided not to. Why? The reason there is no visibility for peeping Toms is that Facebook is afraid t

Too much content to consume?

Image
Hey there, fellow entrepreneur! Do you feel like you’re drowning in a sea of content? Trust me, I get it! • Too many videos screaming for your attention? • Blogs piling up in your “to-read” list? • Courses tempting you with promises of new skills? Been there. Swam in that sea! You know exactly what I’m talking about, don’t you? In this digital age, we’re blessed (or cursed?) with an abundance of great content. But last time I checked, we still only have 24 hours in a day. Bummer, right? So, are we suffering from “Learning Fatigue”? You bet! And it’s not just us – it’s a real headache for lots of content creators. Here’s the deal: There’s no way we can consume all the content out there. It’s like the proverbial “Drinking from a fire hose!” The good news? You don’t have to consume it all! And neither does your audience. The secret sauce? Be selective on what you choose to listen to. Think about what you’re going through and what your own audience is going through. Then p

Money May Be the Root of All Evil, But It Can Bring Happiness

Image
There’s nothing wrong with wanting more money to pay bills, buy special items, or save for retirement, but does it bring true happiness? Photo by Fabian Blank on Unsplash How many of us have heard the expression, " Money is the root of all evil ?" It denigrates money, but it also does something else; it denies a person's ability to discern good from evil. Without offering a path for charitable pursuits and philanthropic endeavors, it portrays money as a dangerous course leading to moral decline. We have to wonder what the likes of Andrew Carnegie , and the titans of business who have had museums, universities, and medical schools named after them, thought of their vast wealth. Were the donations a means of gaining income tax advantages or creating a place in perpetuity for themselves? Or did they have a need and a wish to perpetuate culture and learning, and their money was the means to do this? Thinking of money and lots of it, brings thoughts of both charity
